Performance potential for simulating spin models on GPU
نویسنده
چکیده
Over the last couple of years it has been realized that the vast computational power of graphics processing units (GPUs) could be harvested for purposes other than the video game industry. This power, which at least nominally exceeds that of current CPUs by large factors, results from the relative simplicity of the GPU architectures as compared to CPUs, combined with a large number of parallel processing units on a single chip. To benefit from this setup for general computing purposes, the problems at hand need to be prepared in a way to profit from the inherent parallelism and hierarchical structure of memory accesses. In this contribution I discuss the performance potential for simulating spin models, such as the Ising or Heisenberg models as well as the EdwardsAnderson spin glass, on GPU as compared to conventional simulations on CPU. Different algorithms, including Metropolis [1] and cluster updates [2], as well as computional tricks such as multi-spin coding are taken into account.

Simulating spin models on GPU: A tour
The use of graphics processing units (GPUs) in scienti ̄c computing has gathered considerable momentum in the past ̄ve years. While GPUs in general promise high performance and excellent performance per Watt ratios, not every class of problems is equally well suitable for exploiting the massively parallel architecture they provide. Lattice spin models appear to be prototypic examples of problems ...

متن کاملFast Cellular Automata Implementation on Graphic Processor Unit (GPU) for Salt and Pepper Noise Removal
Noise removal operation is commonly applied as pre-processing step before subsequent image processing tasks due to the occurrence of noise during acquisition or transmission process. A common problem in imaging systems by using CMOS or CCD sensors is appearance of the salt and pepper noise. This paper presents Cellular Automata (CA) framework for noise removal of distorted image by the salt an...
متن کاملImplementation of the direction of arrival estimation algorithms by means of GPU-parallel processing in the Kuda environment (Research Article)
Direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation of audio signals is critical in different areas, including electronic war, sonar, etc. The beamforming methods like Minimum Variance Distortionless Response (MVDR), Delay-and-Sum (DAS), and subspace-based Multiple Signal Classification (MUSIC) are the most known DOA estimation techniques. The mentioned methods have high computational complexity. Hence using...
متن کاملEvaluating the performance of Atmosphere-Ocean Global Circulation Models (AOGCM) in simulating temperature variable in Ahwaz and Abadan stations
Climate changes caused by global warming has presented challenges to human society. Studying the Changes of climate variables in the future decades by using output data’s of Atmosphere-Ocean Global Circulation Models (AOGCM) is a way of perusing climate fluctuation in a region. In this study, the focus is on the AOGCM proceeds in simulating of variable temperature in Ahwaz and Abadan stations. ...
